Teaching Option - Physical Education

photoThis major prepares students to become teachers in K-12 programs.  Students in this major are exercise science majors whose program of focus is designed to prepare to meet the state requirements for teaching health and physical education.  Many of the students in this major also plan on coaching during their professional careers. Students begin to gain classroom experience during their sophomore year that continues through their student teaching.

Students in the Department of Health and Exercise Science are required to attend at least three meetings/conferences during their academic career at The College of New Jersey. These requirements are intended to maximize the student’s experience in their profession, learn about networking and keep abreast of the latest in health and exercise science.  Proof of attendance must be submitted to the student’s advisor.

There is a Health and Exercise Science Club that helps students within the department learn more about the various professions within the major, and students are also encouraged to join their respective professional organizations.
