Concerto Competition entry forms will be available from Dr Tate from October 1st, 2009.
Closing date: November 7th 2008
Audition Requirements. Please read Carefully.
If any of the requirements below are not met entrants are disqualified.
1. The entrant must have a written recommendation from their instrumental teacher in order to proceed with an audition (Recommendation forms will be available with sign-up).
|
2. Students who are considering entry must supply with their entry form, before the closing date (November 7th) a full score, recording and details of publisher and availability including cost. In the case of a rental only piece an "inspection copy" full score must be provided. The production of a score will enable the director of the orchestra to confirm that the orchestral resources are available and that the level of difficulty does not exceed the orchestra's ability to provide a quality accompaniment. Instrumentation must include at minimum strings and woodwind. There is no entry fee however, due to current budget constraints cost may be a factor in deciding eligibility for entry. |
3. The entrant shall play a concerto movement, either memorized or from music according to performance conventions for your instrument (please check with your teacher), written for solo instrument and orchestra. Should there be no significant concerto repertoire for an instrument a ‘non concerto’ e.g. “Fantasia” or similar piece may be considered. In these cases the technical and musical performance demands should be comparable to those of a traditional concerto. Regardless of the work presented it must be a minimum of 15 minutes in duration as listed in a catalogue – or if a catalogue timing is not available a CD timing. Should there be considerable concerto repertoire available for an instrument careful consideration will be given as to the acceptability of a non- concerto work for that instrument. |
4. Remaining movements should be learned so that rehearsal of the complete work may take place in the spring 2009 semester in a timely manner. An accompanist is mandatory and it is the responsibility of the entrant to provide such accompanist. The accompanist may not be a student, faculty member or studio instructor. Also, if the accompanist is an alumni they must have graduated before the concerto competition entrant entered college as a freshman. Regular concert attire is required for the audition -This conditionalso applies to a page turner if required. |
5. No feedback will be given as to your performance at the audition. Judges and Dr. Tate will not respond to any questions regarding your audition performance. If an entrant, teacher or other party with an interest in the result approaches the judges or Dr. Tate after the audition requesting feedback or other information regarding the audition the entrant , if a winner, will be disqualified. If not the winner the entrant will not be permitted to enter any future competition. Placements other than the winner are not disclosed.
