Communication Studies Scholars Publish Article, Present Multiple Papers at Summer International Conferences

 

EWING, NJ ... Two communication studies professors at The College of New Jersey presented papers at national or international conferences, one publishing an article, in summer, 2006. Most of the scholarly papers presented were co-authored with communication studies undergraduate students at the College.

Assistant professor Paul D’Angelo co-authored an article with Dr. Frank Esser of Switzerland titled: “Framing the Press and the Publicity Process in U.S., British, and German General Election Campaigns: A Comparative Study of Metacoverage, “printed in the Harvard International Journal of Press/Politics, 11 (3), 44-66. Dr. D’Angelo also presented a paper, “The Power of the Press: The Effects of Press Frames in Political Campaign News on Media Perceptions”, at the annual conference of the International Communication Association (ICA), meeting in June, 2006, in Dresden, Germany.                

Professor John Pollock also presented three papers co-authored with TCNJ communication studies students at the same conference of the ICA in Dresden, on topics ranging from coverage of affirmative action and gay rights to genetically-modified food:

Pollock, John C., Schumacher, Samantha.(’06), de Zutter, Laura (’05), Mitchell, Elyse (’07), et. al. (2006, June). Gay rights: Nationwide newspaper coverage of gays in the Boy Scouts, gay adoption and gay marriage: A community structure approach. Paper presented at the annual conference of the International Communication Association, Dresden, Germany.

Pollock, John C., Braddock, Pamela (’07)., LaPlant, Kristine (’06), & MalteseNehrbass, Michelleslie (’07). (2006, June). Nationwide newspaper coverage of Genetically-Modified Food: A community structure approach. Paper presented at the annual conference of the International Communication Association, Dresden, Germany.

In addition, Dr. Pollock presented two other papers in summer, 2006, at national scholarly conferences, one on efforts to regulate environmental tobacco smoke in public places, the other on warrantless wiretapping by the National Security Agency.  Each paper was also co-authored with TCNJ students:

Warrantless wiretapping: A community structure approach to nationwide newspaper coverage of National Security Agency surveillance. Paper presented at the APSA/ICA Crisis Communication conference, Annenberg School of Communication, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.
