TCNJ music alums to open for Boston Pops at NJPAC
EWING, NJ … A threesome of very talented alumni from The College of New Jersey is about to make a big name for themselves when they open for the Boston Pops on December 7.
Ardith Collins `01, Josh Bicknell `03 and Kristy Chmura `03 comprise double-breasted, a unique musical juxtaposition of harp, cello, percussion and vocals. The band will open for the renowned orchestra as part of New Jersey Performing Arts Center’s Prelude Concert Series. The group will open for the Pops at 2PM, and will provide musical entertainment during intermission.
double-breasted have played the stages of NJ/NY rock venues such as Maxwell's, Arlene's Grocery, The Court Tavern, and The Cutting Room, as well as more intimate acoustic venues such as The Goldhawk, Café Meow, and Here’s to The Arts, and local music festivals, such as the Black River Music and Art Fest.
The band, whose members met in TCNJ’s Department of Music in 1999, also released their first full-length album, which they both recorded and produced by themselves. Their album, “Who Will Love You,” will be sold during their performance at NJPAC.
In reaction to opening for the Boston Pops, the band said, “We are excited and honored to have this opportunity. We can’t help but feel a little nervous as well. We are so grateful for Evan White, Program Manager and Co-Producer, Sounds of the City, NJPAC and everyone at NJPAC for their support of the arts and local musicians.”
The New Jersey Performing Arts Center has garnered national attention in its first nine seasons, serving as a model for programming, audience diversity, education initiatives, and the catalytic role it has played in returning nightlife and economic activity to New Jersey’s largest urban community.
