Author will address the sweep of schizophrenia
EWING, NJ …Patrick Tracey, author of “Stalking Irish Madness: Searching for the Roots of My Family's Schizophrenia,” will visit TCNJ on Nov. 16 to discuss the impact of mental illness on families and communities.
Tracey’s book uncovers the Irish roots of the schizophrenia that has affected several of his close relatives. The Boston-based author received the Ken Book Award from the National Alliance on Mental Illness for "outstanding literary contribution to the understanding of mental illness," a Slate best book of 2008 recognition, and the prestigious PEN New England/L.L. Winship Award for Nonfiction.
The talk is intended to educate students about schizophrenia and increase the sensitivity of campus community members toward the underlying factors and issues related to mental illness. Student Affairs, Active Minds, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) Peer Educators, and Psi Chi are sponsoring the event.
Tracey will speak at 6 P.M. in Brower Student Center Room 202 W. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Larry Gage at gage@tcnj.edu.
