Miriam Lowi, associate professor of political science, has been named as one of only 20 new Carnegie Scholars this year. The Carnegie Corporation provides funding, with two-year grants of up to $100,000, and intellectual support to well-established and promising young thinkers, analysts and writers. Lowi won the award for her project Islam and Oil: The Economy of Meaning, which will examine how interpretations of Islam have shaped the exploitation of oil and allocation of oil revenues, and how the latter have influenced adherence to and the practice of Islam.
Earlier this month, TCNJ’s Student Government Association (SGA) passed two resolutions addressing New Jersey’s recent budget cuts affecting higher education. The first resolution called upon the state to reinstate the Outstanding Scholar Recruitment Program (OSRP). The second resolution expresses SGA’s “sincere disapproval” of the state's FY 2009 budget, which presents a 10 percent cut in funding to the institution.
CUB's second annual Globalpalooza, held on Sunday, April 13, offered food, fun, music, and a multicultural educational experience that attendees won't soon forget.
This past semester, a number of TCNJ students received individual accolades as part of their extracurricular activities that were sponsored in part by the School of Business. These out-of-class learning experiences allowed TCNJ students to show off the skills they have learned in class, and compete against their counterparts from other business schools. Here is a brief summary of how TCNJ students fared.
The athletics department names the 2008 Dr. Harold W. Eickhoff Outstanding Senior Scholar-Athletes, a former Lions baseball player who lost his life in Iraq is honored, and numerous athletes and coaches win individual honors.
