Rebuilding New Orleans
More than two years after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, recovery efforts in New Orleans are still in full effect. Fresh off of studying for final exams, 39 students from The College of New Jersey spent January 12-19 reconstructing homes and lives in New Orleans. The students attending are Bonner Community Scholars, TCNJ’s “domestic peace corps.” Each year, the College recruits and selects a diverse group of incoming students to participate in the four-year program, and these individuals spend a minimum of 300 hours working collaboratively with community partners to improve the quality of life in Trenton and the surrounding area.
