RSCH 600 : FACULTY-STUDENT RESEARCH SEMINAR

PRE-REQUISITE: EDFN 508 - Introduction to Research

I.	COURSE DESCRIPTION: This three (3) credit course elective is intended for advanced graduate students in Education. Students develop and implement an educational research project based on issues, challenges and dilemmas of their professional practice in


 collaboration with a faculty member. This seminar uses current models of collaborative inquiry in education; it is also open to develop other approaches as needed.  Course content focuses on qualitative and quantitative research designs and analyses as w


ell as technical writing. Students are expected to purchase any necessary measures and/or curriculum materials needed for the proper completion of the course. 

II.	COURSE OBJECTIVES 
Reflect on their professional goals and practice (K.I).
Critically analyze the knowledge base in the field of education (K.I.)
Nurture a positive disposition to alternative approaches to inquiry in education (M.D.I.) 
Collaborate with colleagues in the practice of research and inquiry (MC&C).
Cultivate a commitment to situational analysis, educational inquiry and best practices (L.A.). 
Weigh seriously and accept responsibility for the consequences of inquiry-based decisions (L.A.).
Analyze and evaluate classroom/school practices(EP) .
Use microcomputers to support presentation and dissemination of research findings (EP). 

III.	COURSE OUTLINE AND REQUIREMENTS
	This course will be divided into four modules: the preparation of an original research proposal, the implementation of the study including data collection and data analysis; report writing; submission to a local/regional/national/international conference


; and preparation of research for publication.

IV.	CLASS ACTIVITIES
	Active participation in in-class activities, comprising reflection, dialogue, journaling, individual/group presentations, must be completed satisfactorily by each student. 

VII.	GRADES.
	Adequate performance on all tasks is expected of all students in order to pass the course. 
	Criteria:
	100 - 90		A, A-
	89 - 80		B+, B, B-
	79 - 70		C+, C, C-
	60 - 69		D
	59 and Below 	F
	Incomplete grades will be given only in grave situations.
