READING ASSIGNMENTS

The following is a chronology of some of the semester's reading assignments:

To begin:

Read the Course Syllabus, Announcements, and Lab Info, and know what is expected of you.
In the Course/Lab Manual, read, study and know everything in Ex. 1.0

FOR LECTURE:

For the first week:
Read Chapter 1, parts A,  B,  C & D of my online textbook, which is found on this website.

For the ensuing weeks, be guided by what is being discussed in lecture.

Unless otherwise noted, the following readings are in the textbook "Pathways to Astronomy"
by Scneider and Arny:
Our Planetary Neighborhood: pg. 1 - 12, Unit 1.
Beyond the Solar System: pg 9 - 16, Unit 1.
Numbers: pg. 18 - 22, Unit 3.
Celestial Sphere and Coordinates: All of Unit 5.
Study the star charts in back of textbook.
Unit 6.2 on the ecliptic and Zodiac.
Precession: Unit 6.6, pg. 51

Elongation: Study diagrams on page 91 in  S&A.
Ex. 15.0 and study how elongations are measured on the chart on p. 118 in Ex. 16.0
in the RJP Course Manual.

Heliocentric Solar System, Copernicus:  Unit 11
Kepler, and Galilei:  Unit 12.

Units 6.1 thru 6.5 on the annual motion of the Sun, seasons, ecliptic.
Ex. 7.0 in the RJP Course Manual regarding the ecliptic, zodiac, the equinoxes, the solstices,
the changing diurnal circles of the Sun, and seasons.

Read all of the above for Test 1.
