Wed 3/17/10

So as Zohaib mentioned in the minutes before, TOMORROW (March 17, Wednesday) is the Pi Day Celebration!! WOOT! We have plenty of food, including Oreo, Chips Ahoy, assorted pies, oatmeal cookies... etc!! It's supposed to be around 56 degrees out tomorrow during meeting time, so we will meet in the usual computer lab and then decide where to go from there. We can go into the geology lab, P128 seminar room, or even outside if everyone's feeling up to it!!! :D So don't forget to bring your Frisbee, volleyball, soccer, or any fun things we can do related to Pi!! Also, semester points will be given out to people who can memorize pi to the most decimal places!

Don't forget, more semester points = better chance at winning FREE tshirt!

After the celebration and joy, we can study for electronics together, so "Oh well I have to study for electronics and can't go to the meeting" is NOT a good excuse to not be at physics club tomorrow at noon! Also, "Oh I have other club meetings at the same time" is NOT a good excuse to not be at physics club tomorrow either, because the other clubs don't feed you during lunch! We do!

One more thing: TSHIRT MONEY IS DUE!!! Bring your tshirt money!!! TSHIRT MONEY! TSHIRT TSHIRT TSHIRT!!! Tshirt money is due tomorrow!!! TOMORROW!!! GET YOUR PHYSICS TSHIRT!!! DON'T FORGET ABOUT YOUR TSHIRT MONEY TOMORROW! You don't want to be the only one in the department without a cool physics tshirt designed by Jeremy!!

See you all at the meeting tomorrow!

Wed 3/3/10

I hope everyone is enjoying their Spring Break and getting some relaxing time in. I know it must be busy for some of you, but hang in there! The way I see it, the semester is almost over =O. Don't worry. We still have a lot of fun stuff planned to cram in before we all do our summer things.

The major thing that we discussed last Wednesday was PI day, as well as the t-shirt fundraiser. I attached a preview of what the t-shirt will look like and also the order form that goes along with it. Try to get all of your friends from back home to buy one, its a really sweet deal!

Speaking of sweet ---> We need more people to sign up for PI day. We will be having the sale the week of the 15th from 10 am to 12:30 pm. Just email us here for anytime that you are available.

The reason we are doing all of this fundraising is so that we will be able to pay for the Department Dinner that we will be having with our faculty. It will be a great time, so I encourage everyone to make an effort to go! Plus, it definitely beats Eick food, which I know I am not missing one bit =P.

Here are all the important dates that are coming up, for those of you who like to see everything in a nice list.

Have a great break, and I will see you guys at the meeting on Wednesday.

Wed 2/24/10

I hope everyone enjoyed there semi-snow day (cancellation of classes, but with no snow accumulation!). A couple of important things were announced on Wednesday, and we wouldn't want you guys to accidentally forget the important dates that are coming up. Firstly, I would like to thank all of you who participated in the photo scavenger hunt of the physics building, even though I would've liked for more people to participate =(. I am sure this won't be the case next time.

T-shirts:

  1. They are designed, and we would like everyone to be able to view them, so go on the Physics facebook page and find the link to the tumblr that Jeremy so kindly created. It has a final design, however there is one important thing to mention, which is that the logo on the back will be a much larger size than the design shows.
  2. A little background on psi ---> It is the letter that is used to describe Schrodinger's probability density of finding an electron in a specific place around an atom (Actually, only psi squared is useful for this calculation, but psi is still associated with this measurement). Normalizing the Schrodinger's equation is to ensure that the probability of finding the electron is not greater than one, since it can never be that value. (<-- FOR ALL THAT DONT GET THE GREEK LETTER)
  3. ANYWAYS, for our purposes, it obviously represents a marijuana leaf, and normalize it refers to legalize it (<-- FOR ALL THAT DONT GET THE JOKE!!)
  4. Next week, on MARCH 3rd is when we are going to give out fliers and things for the shirts. Use your spring break wisely to convince your friends and family to buy this cool design, so that we can have enough money to hopefully pay off our faculty dinner!!!!!

On another note, important dates to keep in mind:
  1. PIE DAY (like the greek alphabet too...lol?) --- March 17th. We will probably be having a social that day as well, so get ready for a lot of food and a lot of fun. During the week, we will be having a pie sale, so we need a couple of volunteers to sign up and dedicate their time to help sell them =).
  2. Camping trip: I believe it is March 19th into March 20th, however I want to double check that (I know, what a bad secretary, right?).
  3. Faculty dinner --- March 24th. We are trying desperately to raise enough money by this date to ensure that none of the professors will have to pay for their own dinner. This is why its so important to get your peeps to buy more t-shirts and pies!!
  4. School of Science Carnival (sounds fun, doesn't it?) --- April 14th. We need a couple of people to run the Physics area from 12- 3 pm (in shifts of course !), so we will be having a sign up of that at the next meeting, or sometime soon.
I am not sure how I wrote this much, but it must've been inspired by something that happened today ( no, nothing good happened, just a snow day that didn't even push back the electronics homework >.>) I hope it was entertaining to read through, however, and make sure to put the dates in your calender or planner or whatever. Keep it real (and have another safe snow day)

Wed 2/17/10

Hey All, My apologies for not sending out an reminder email for today. A lot of people didn't show up, however I hope that won't be the case for next week, since it will be a lot of fun! Today we started a photo scavenger hunt of the physics building. Some of these photos have a couple of requirements to get full points. Also, you can get bonus points by including a person in your photo and having a funny pose as well! Whoever wants to sign up should send us an email by tomorrow with your partner's (as in one partner) name. Fliers for participation can be found around the physics building, so its good to take a look at that for the details. If you guys are lucky, some of your pictures might go up on the website =). Hope to see you guys next week.
