Stuart G. Koch is originally from Pennsylvania and holds a B.A. in political science from Ursinus College (1968). He served in the U.S. Army from 1969-71 and then received his M.A. (1973) and Ph.D. (1977) degrees from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. After teaching at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY from 1976 to 1981, he joined The College of New Jersey faculty in September of 1981. He holds the rank of Associate Professor.

Dr. Koch's teaching and research interests involve public management and public policy. His publications include the book Water Resources Planning in New England (University Press of New England, 1980) and the monograph NJASPA Survey of State Managers: Summary Report (NJASPA, 1986). The monograph was done in conjunction with the New Jersey chapter of the American Society for Public Administration. Dr. Koch has presented papers at meetings of the American Society for Public Administration, American Political Science Association, Northeastern Political Science Association and other professional organizations.

Dr. Koch's research has been supported by grants from the College of New Jersey, the State of New York, and the Mercer County Park Commission. His current research focuses on an examination and assessment of "Megan's Law," which provides for community notification upon the release of high-risk sexual offenders. His other recent work has also focused on New Jersey public management issues. He was an officer of the New Jersey chapter of the American Society for Public Administration for seven years, serving as president for 1996-97, and remains active in that organization.

Dr. Koch teaches American Government, American Public Policy, Politics and Public Management, The Presidency and Congress, and State and Local Government. He chaired the Political Science Department for nine years and served as Acting Associate Dean of Arts and Sciences in the fall of 1996. He also coordinates the Department's internship program, the college-wide Brian Stack Memorial Internships in the Governor's Office and the Public Analysis and Management Minor.
