Jack Fehn was promoted December 2008 to his current position of Energy Systems Specialist for The College of New Jersey. His new responsibilities are monitoring all of the colleges energy consumption, and consulting with outside contractors to implement today's technologies to help reduce future energy consumption, and help reduce the Colleges carbon foot print.
Appointed in 2000, as Instrument and Controls Specialist were he was responsible for installation and maintenance of instrumentation, electronic installations, control computers and training in the Central Utilities Plant.
Jack was responsible for electrical and control projects and maintenance of the power plant, troubleshooting and maintaining both hardware and software of the Enerwise campus wide metering system, and was the electrical project leader for the 2000 Co generation Plant Upgrade. In addition, he is the webmaster for the Central Utilities Plant web page. He was promoted to Instrument and Controls Specialist from the Electrical Department, where he worked for ten years as an electrician, and helped design and install electronic door access and card reader systems on campus. Prior to his employment at The College, he was an independent electrical contractor, and still maintains his New Jersey State Electrical Contractors License attending monthly continuing education classes.
He was Alternate member of the Staff Senate, former member of The Committee for Student and Campus Community (CSCC), and Committee for Planning and Priorities (CPP) at The College, currently sitting on the Helen Shaw Special Achievement Memorial Award Fund at TCNJ their he is designing and maintains there first web page, and also sits on TCNJ Housing Master Plan Committee (HMPC). Jack is also a member of the Central Jersey Electrical League (CJEL),
Jack and his wife Heather have established a scholarship fund at TCNJ School of Nursing in honor of his daughter, Hannah. Who passed away in 2002 from Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). In the past years Jack and Heather have also given lectures on there experience dealing with SMA in the family at The Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia, PA (CHOP) for the masters level intern medical students. They have also been featured in Philadelphia Magazine (04), Good housekeeping (Feb 05), and the TCNJ Alumni Magazine (Spring 06).
In his spare time he has worked with New Jersey Special Olympics as both their electrician at the State Headquarters in Lawrenceville, NJ and the summer games held at the College of New Jersey in May of each year.
Jack earned an Associate Degree in Electronic Engineering from Mercer County Community College in May of 2004. He has also returned to his Mercer County Community College in 2008 taking classes in Auto Cadd were he will apply this training to updating and maintaining the Energy and Centrial Utilities blue prints.
