A Quick Guide to TCNJ Residential Living
Please read this quick overview of important residential policies and procedures relevant to campus living. When you move into your residence hall in August, you will receive a booklet entitled “A Guide to Residence Living,” which will provide you with more detail about living in TCNJ housing and will assist you by answering questions as they come up during your stay with us. ALL RESIDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR READING AND OBSERVING ALL POLICIES LISTED IN THIS GUIDE. In addition, there will be general administrative information available on our web page http://www.tcnj.edu/~reslife.
In order to maximize space in your room, we strongly suggest that you contact your roommate(s) in order to determine who is bringing specific items for roommate(s) use.
Beds |
All beds in campus housing are extra-long twins. Extra long sheets are necessary, but twin size comforters, blankets, etc., will fit easily on these beds. Non-college mattresses are not permitted in residence hall rooms. |
Air Conditioning |
Air conditioners of any type are NOT allowed in any residence hall. The Townhouses, New Residence Hall and Eickhoff Hall have internal air units. |
Appliances |
Appliances with exposed heating elements are not permitted in campus housing. These devices include but are not limited to: broiler or toaster ovens, heating devices, hot plates, toasters, and space heaters (in emergencies, space heaters may be issued by the residence life staff). The use of appliances with enclosed heating elements for cooking purposes is only permitted in common area kitchens. One personal microwave ranging between .4 and .6 cubic feet per room is permitted in all residence halls except the Townhouses and Off-Campus Houses. One personal refrigerator per room is allowed, but may not exceed 3.5 cubic feet, in all residence halls except Townhouses and Off-Campus Houses. Microwaves and full size refrigerators are provided in all Townhouses and Off-Campus Houses, therefore these personal appliances are prohibited in these buildings. Also, major appliances such as portable dishwashers, washers and dryers are not permitted. |
Halogen Lamps |
Halogen lamps are NOT permitted on campus. |
Fire Safety |
Because of the potential fire hazard, the possession and/or burning of candles, incense, fireworks, halogen lamps and other open flame devices are strictly prohibited. In addition, personal furniture made of or containing urethane may not be brought into the residence halls. NO SMOKING IS PERMITTED IN ANY RESIDENTIAL FACILITY. |
Extention Cords |
No extension cords are allowed in the rooms – only UL Listed power strips should be in use. |
Pets |
No Pets are allowed in the Off Campus Houses. However, on campus residents may keep a pet with prior roommate(s) consent. Pets that are permitted on campus are hamsters, mice, gerbils, turtles, small guinea pigs, fish, iguanas, lizards, and sand/hermit crabs. However, all pets must be confined to a 10-gallon glass tank and NO open wire cages. |
Room Furnishings |
College furniture may not be removed and must remain in the designated room throughout the entire year. All personal furniture in your room, such as bean bags, must be made of fire retardant materials. |
