Microsoft Windows 2000 Settings

These instructions are assuming that you've successfully installed the network card into your computer and Windows 2000 recognizes it. Now, we're going to take you through the network settings step by step

First, click the Start button, select Settings, and then select Control Panel from the menu. Next, you're going to double-click on the Network and Dial Up Connections icon. You should now see a window like the one shown below.

Network Settings

Right click on the Local Area connection icon so you see the menu that is listed above. Then click on properties as illustrated below.

Network Settings Menu

The next screen that will follow should look like below with certain differences. Those differences would be a different card and possibly Client for Microsoft Networking.

Local Area Properties

You want to make sure that you have the Internet Protocol TCP/IP installed. If this is not installed and there is no adapter listed above where it says connect using then you most likely do not have a network card.

If you do have all of the above follow the directions below in order to find your Hardware address which is essential for getting connected to RES.net.

To find your hardware address, you need to click on the Start button, and then select Run from the menu. Where it says Open, you need to type in cmd and hit enter. There will be a window that will pop-up with the title will be Command Prompt, and in the window it will say c:\. Now you need to type in ipconfig /all to find the information you will need to complete the application.

The number you want is labeled "Physical Address." You do not want a description that says PPP, WAN, or AOL Adapter.
