Microsoft Windows 2000/XP Dial-Up Settings
Configuring your modem settings:
- Before setting up your dial-up connection you must check your modem options. Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, then double-click on Phone and Modem Options.
- Click New.
- Fill in these values:
- Location Name: TCNJ
- Area Code: 609
- To access an outside line for local calls, dial: 8
- Click OK and make sure that TCNJ is selected as your location.
Setting up your dial-up connection:
- Go to Start, Settings, Network and Dial-up Connections.
- Double-click on Make New Connection.
- Click Next.
- Click Dial-up to the Internet, then click Next.
- Click I want to set up my Internet connection manually, then click Next.
- Click I connect through a phone line and modem, then click Next.
- Fill-in the Area code box and the Telephone number box (see the dialup
phone numbers page for a list of valid area codes and phone
numbers), then click Next.
- Enter your UNIX login name and UNIX password in the User name and Password boxes.
- Type in TCNJ as the connection name.
- You have the option to configure your e-mail account on the next page, select No, then Next.
- You're all done! Click Finish.
Using the TCNJ connection to connect to the college:
Follow these instructions each time you want to dial into the college.
- Go to the My Computer icon on your desktop.
- Double-click on the Dial-Up Networking icon.
- Double-click on the TCNJ icon.
- Enter your UNIX login name and UNIX password in the User name and Password boxes. Optionally, check the Save password box if your machine is secure.
- Verify the phone number and click on the Connect button.
- Your modem will now dial the College and connect.
- Next, your login and password will be verified, then you will be logged into the network.
- After the menu bar of the TCNJ connection window changes to Connected to TCNJ, you can then use your Internet software.
- When you are done using the Internet, close all of your Internet applications.
- Return to the Connected to TCNJ window and click on the Disconnect button.
