Microsoft Windows 98/ME/2000 Wireless Settings
These instructions are designed to describe the basic steps of setting up a Wireless device under Microsoft Windows. The actual steps may vary between the different brands of devices.
- Follow the installation instructions provided by the Wireless device's manufacturer for installing the device and the software.
- If the installation program asks you to provide a network mode and SSID, choose Infrastructure and enter TCNJTRANS for the SSID.
- After the installation, click the Start Button and choose Settings and then Control Panel.
- From the Control Panel, double-click on the icon labeled Network.
- From the new dialog box that pops up, double-click on item corresponding to your wireless device.
- From the new box that pops up, click on the Advanced tab, a list of properties should appear.
- First, choose Authentication type and set it to Shared Key.
- Next, choose Encryption level and select 64 or 40 bit.
- Next, choose SSID or ESSID and set it to TCNJTRANS.
- Finally, choose WEP Key #1 and enter c5adc92f40.
- Click OK to save the changes.
Note: Now the adapter should be able to connect to the network. Most adapters have a program installed that allows you to view the status of the connection in the lower right hand corner of the screen. You can double-click on the icon for it to bring up specific information about it. The SSID and WEP Key may need to be entered here if there is no other place to enter them
