Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME Dial-Up Settings
Prerequisites:
- Additional 16 dial-up lines.
- U.S. Robotics Total Control MP/16 with sixteen 33.6K baud modems.
- 3Com Accessbuilder 4000 supporting IP and IPX via PPP.
- Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME.
- Modem installed and configured.
- Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME Dial-Up Networking installed.
If Dial-Up Networking is not installed, go to the START button and choose Settings, then Control Panel. Double-click on Add/Remove Programs. Click on the Windows Setup tab. Double-click on Communications. Check the box next to Dial-Up Networking. Click on the OK button, then the Apply button. Have your Windows 95/98 disks or CDROM ready.
Making a connection to TCNJ:
You will only need to perform the steps in this section once.
- Go to the My Computer icon on your desktop.
- Double-click on the Dial-Up Networking icon. If you don't see this icon, you probably don't have Dial-Up Networking installed. You need to install it before proceeding.
- Double-click on the Make New Connection icon.
- Enter TCNJ as the name of the computer you are dialing.
- Your modem should be already selected in the Select a modem box. If you have multiple modems, you may need to select the appropriate one.
- Click on the Next button.
- Fill-in the Area code box and the Phone number box (see the dialup phone numbers page for a list of valid area codes and phone numbers).
- Click on the Next button.
- Click on the Finish button.
Using the TCNJ Connection to connect to the college:
Follow these instructions each time you want to dial into the college.
- Go to the My Computer icon on your desktop.
- Double-click on the Dial-Up Networking icon.
- Double-click on the TCNJ icon.
- Enter your UNIX login name and UNIX password in the User name and Password boxes. Optionally, check the Save password box if your machine is secure.
- Verify the phone number and click on the Connect button.
- Your modem will now dial the college and connect.
- Next, your login and password will be verified, then you will be logged into the network.
- After the menu bar of the TCNJ connection window changes to Connected to TCNJ, you can then use your Internet software.
- When you are done using the Internet, close all of your Internet applications.
- Return to the Connected to TCNJ window and click on the Disconnect button.
