Microsoft Windows XP SettingsThese instructions are assuming that you've successfully installed the network card into your computer and Windows XP recognizes it. Now, we're going to take you through the network settings step by step. First, click the Start button and then select Control Panel from the menu.
Next, you're going to double-click on the Network and Internet Connections icon. This will bring up the screen below and you can click on Network Connections.
You will then see a screen that looks like the one below.
Right click on the Local Area connection icon so you see the menu that is listed above. Then click on properties as illustrated above. The next screen that will follow should look like below with certain differences. Those differences would be a different card and possibly Client for Microsoft Networking.
You want to make sure that you have the Internet Protocol TCP/IP installed. If this is not installed and there is no adapter listed above where it says connect using, then you most likely do not have a network card. If you do have all of the above follow the directions below in order to find your Hardware address which is essential for getting connected to RES.net. To find your hardware address, you need to click on the Start button, and then select Run from the menu. Where is says Open, you need to type in cmd /k ipconfig /all and hit enter. A new window will pop-up that contains all the information about your networking hardware. You want to write down the 12 digit number seperated by dashes called the Physical Address. Make sure that it is the Physical Address for your card. You do not want a PPP or an AOL Adapter.
