Gardner's Reply on Cultural Intelligence
I was surprised to get the following e-mail from "the" Howard Gardner, the multiple intelligences guru
I wrote about earlier.
I'd be inclined to include what you describe as part of interpersonal intelligence. I am also a bit wary about the stereotyping that the notion of cultural intelligence might encourage. The one time that I publicly denounced the use of my ideas was when some educators in Australia tried to describe the various indigenous populations in terms of the intelligences that they had and those that they lacked.
It wasn't clear what stereotyping he was talking about, but you know how we are. As long as we are human, if we can stereotype instead of actually getting to know people, we will. We're always looking for shortcuts and sometimes we look in the wrong places.

Juterphusion's summer news
Again, my having been away from this blog kept me from passing on this note from Juterphusion's Anthony Thompson:
I have access to a New Brunswick based studio with professional grade equipment. They were also the sound techs for the last two years for the acclaimed Cadets. As well as me hooking up with a weekend crew of film shooters and foleying (boom mic-ing and sound design) for a short seven-minute film for the iClick video competition. It's a bit crude and was not post production edited by me for audio, which would have eliminated the few
inconsisties and errors. Here's the film.
We are also going to attempt to do more random weekend projects as they come, a bunch of them actually have a lot of experience and it was good training session. I even personally taught someone to boom, which was rewarding and helpful knowing I am able to do so relatively easily.
I will be sending you a short list soon on ways that I could be helped. Equipment isn't the biggest issue, but reconnecting my websites ESPECIALLY the Juterphusion [site] is a priority.

Drink socially and benefit?
Monster's Blog yielded this gem, which was e-mailed to me as I am on their list:
According to a Yahoo! News article citing a recent study published in the Journal of Labor Research, "drinkers earn 10 to 14 percent more than teetotalers, and...men who drink socially bring home an additional 7 percent in pay.
Sorry, Monster: it's not the drink that does it. It's the socialization. I like a good beer as much as the next guy, but if you are able to socialize in the workplace without the benefit of alcohol, you will reap the same benefit.

TCNJ student wows MIT vehicle design summit!
I haven't been on the air here in two months, so I have gathered up quite a bit of material. And I'm glad to be back, whether you read this or not. I'm still here to serve student entrepreneurs.
One of my favorite former students, Mary Anne Bitetto, was at MIT this past summer participating in a vehicle design summit. Forgive me if I pass on some of her enthusiasm for the work directly:
The cars are done, and my team finished building first! That was quite a feat, since we began construction about 2-3 weeks after everyone else. Our car is called Pulse (a name I came up with) because we're interested in alternative energy as a lifestyle - the eventual goal is to equip a house with solar panels so that the car can charge the batteries from those, and the panels can power the house when they're not charging the car. It came out great. I'm pretty happy with the frame. It was difficult to work sometimes because we kept losing and gaining people because of their summer schedules, so there were only four people including me who had worked on the project for the entire duration of the summit.
Mary Anne had considered enlisting help not only from myself, but
Brian Holcombe and even
IMET, but there just wasn't time. She was putting in 14- to 16-hour days, designing a new type of car with a small team, under tight time and budget constraints. (That's Mary Anne in the foreground of the picture in the above link, by the way...)
Here are the links:
Cheers!
