Domestic Violence Awareness Week Activities

Mon, Oct 17	Event: "Hand-Painted" Banner Time: 11:00 am – 1:00 pm Location: Student Center Atrium Description of Event: As a demonstration of support to end violence against women, students will dip their hands in paint and leave their imprint on banner. The banner will then be displayed in the student center for the rest of the week. Sponsored by: Amnesty International Event: Movie Night Time: 8:00 pm Location: Eickhoff Hall #113 Description of Event: Students can view the movie Radio Flyer, which increases awareness and raises questions about domestic violence. The movie will be followed by a discussion led by students. Sponsored by: Intervarsity Christian Fellowship Event: Men Against Violence Against Women Pledge Signing – Time/Location: 11:00 am – 1:00 (Student Center) Available at all DVA Week events Description of Event: Men will be invited to sign the “Men Against Violence Against Women Pledge." Tue, Oct 18	Event: Many Faces of Domestic Violence – Time: Die-In: 12:10 - 12:35 pm Location: Die-In: 25 minute demonstration betwn. BSC, Green Hall and Social Science Bldg. (All other demonstrations will take place throughout the day, campus-wide) Description of Event: Students with simulated injuries, empty seats reserved in the classroom, and the Die-In symbolize a few ways in which domestic violence is manifested in society. The event hopes to shed light on and bring awareness to intimate partner violence. Wed, Oct 19	Event: Co-ed Game Night – Team Up Against Domestic Violence Time: 8:00 -10:00 pm Location: Rec Center Description of Event: Students can join in the effort to end domestic violence by learning to “let off some steam” in a positive and healthy way. Activities include co-ed sports and games, such as volleyball, whiffleball, table tennis, Twister, and an interactive game show. There will be an information tables present to give out prizes and answer questions. Sponsored by: Office of Anti-Violence Initiatives, ADEP, Club Softball, Club Volleyball, Club Tennis, WTSR , Sigma Pi Fraternity, White Ribbon Campaign, Cheerleaders, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, Union Latina, R.O.S.E. / Womanspace, Kappa Delta, and Women’s Center Event: Men Against Violence Against Women Pledge Signing – Time/Location: 5:00 – 7:00 pm Wed. Thu, Oct 20	Event: Coffee House – Time: 8-10 pm Location: Student Center Description of Event: An interactive coffee house focusing on the awareness and prevention of domestic violence. Event will contain stations throughout the room with information tables and activities. There will also be an open microphone for poets, singers, and anyone interested in sharing.
