SAVE Peer Educator Profiles

Michelle Gervasi, Supervisor

Hi!  My name is Michelle Gervasi, and I am the Program Assistant for the Office of Anti-Violence Initiatives, the Alcohol Drug Education Program and the Office of Differing Abilities. I recently graduated from TCNJ in May 2008, and my time here as a student was some of the best years of my life! While a student at TCNJ, I majored in Psychology and minored in Sociology and Women and Gender Studies.  I was an active sister of Zeta Tau Alpha and volunteered all throughout my four years with the Office of Anti-Violence Initiatives as a member of the planning committees for Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month.   I am also an advocate for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault for Mercer County.

Lynette Barnes

My name is Lynette Barnes, and I am Senior here at TCNJ. My twin sister, Evette, is also a Senior here at TCNJ (people say she looks like me, I disagree). I am pursuing degrees in Psychology and Woman and Gender Studies. This is my 3rd year as a Student Anti-Violence Educator! Honestly, it's been an excellent experience that keeps getting better. I really enjoy helping people and want to act on behalf of victims and survivors of violence for the rest of my life. If you see me, feel free to say hello. Chances are, I will have already come up to you. =)

Katrina Blaise

Hi, I'm Katrina and I am a proud North Jersey resident from Palisades Park, NJ. Pal Park is five minutes from NYC so my interests basically revolve around this magnificent diverse city, especially the theatre! While I am not gallivanting in the city, I'm a current junior at the College of New Jersey majoring in Sociology, with a concentration in Non-Profit and minoring in Women and Gender Studies. I am also on Executive Board for Women in Leadership and Learning (W.I.L.L.) Through W.I.L.L., this summer I participated in a delegation called the Nicaragua Solidarity Project  where we visited Nicaragua in June for 10 days. This was a life changing experience which has reaffirmed my life goal to be a social worker. This summer I have also worked with Oxfam America as a CHANGE Leader and I will start a Fast for a World Harvest Campaign on to campus which will help raise money and awareness to combat hunger and poverty around the world. I have worked with OAVI before to help plan both Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Awareness Months before but now I am super stoked to finally have a fixed position as Student Anti-Violence Educator and have the chance to actually conduct these amazing programs this office plans. Lastly, if you ever need a helping hand and you see me on campus feel free to holla at me!

Mike Caçoilo

My name is Mike Caçoilo and I’m a junior at TCNJ.  I am a pre-med Psychology major with a Spanish minor.  I also volunteer with TCNJ’s Bonner Program, teaching ESL classes and tutoring kids in an after-school program.  I love trying new things (especially food!), spending time outside, and making people laugh.  This is going to be my first year as a SAVE Peer Educator, and I’m really looking forward to being part of the team.

Isha Desai

Hi, my name is Isha Desai and I am a Junior at TCNJ pursing a pre-medical track. I am a Biology major with minors in Psychology and Women and Gender Studies. I am involved in the Women in Learning and Leadership Program (WILL) and also co-founded the organization Pre-SOMA. This is my first year as a Student Anti-Violence Educator and I am extremely excited to be involved in such a phenomenal program. In the near future, I plan to attend medical school and hope to become a doctor. I look forward to the upcoming year!!!

Andy Flexon

I am currently a Junior Accounting major with a minor in Business Management. I live in Townhouses East this year. In the business school, I am a member of Beta Alpha Psi and Treasurer of The Institute of Management Accountants-Student Chapter. If I am not in the Business Building or my room, you can usually find me in Eickhoff 159 (The Office of Anti-Violence Initiatives) working as an office assistant or just hanging out. While I enjoy watching all sports, I live and die with Philadelphia sports teams. When not in school, I spend my summers out on the golf course and going to country concerts.

Julie Anne Garretson

Hi!  My name is Julie Anne Garretson, and I am from Cranford, New Jersey.  I am a sophomore Psychology and Women and Gender Studies major here at TCNJ.  As this is my first year with SAVE, I am ecstatic to be joining such a fantastic team and program.  On campus, I am also involved with W.I.L.L., Kidsbridge Tolerance Museum, and Bod Squad.  I absolutely love music of all genres, as well as singing and dancing.  In my spare time I also love to run, spend time outdoors, attempt to play the guitar, meet new people and hang out with friends.  In the future, I hope to make a positive impact in the world of body image and eating disorders.

Eric Goldwaser

Hi I'm Eric.  I'm a Junior Biology major (Spanish minor).  I enjoy cooking, tennis, dancing, partying, traveling, and soccer, to name a few things.  I have played soccer my whole life, and am on the varsity team as the goalkeeper for TCNJ.  My plans are to go to medical school and hopefully become a doctor someday.  I'm a social, outgoing, and fun guy, so get to know me!

Jilu Jacob

Hi! My name is Jilu Jacob and although I am a senior, it is my first year as a SAVE PE. I am a biology major with an art history minor and a religious studies concentration. On campus, I am involved in Circle K, Catholic Campus Ministries, and I--Tunes, among others. I LOVE to travel and this led me to study abroad in Sevilla, Spain in the fall of my junior year. When I need a break from school, I love to cook, read, take walks, and hang out with family and friends. One of my favorite things to do is meeting new people and I have been accused of being frighteningly friendly. After graduation I am excited to work in the medical field in pediatrics.

Mark Kaplan

Hi, my name is Mark Kaplan and I am a sophomore Sociology major. This is my first year as a Student Anti-Violence Education Peer Educator (SAVE PE) and I am so excited! I had decided that I wanted to be a SAVE PE after participating in Gender Blender, a program pertaining to relationships. I had such a great time taking part in that program, and I wanted to give my peers the same opportunity to learn while simultaneously having fun through OAVI’s programs. Outside of being a SAVE PE, sports are my greatest passion. I love both watching and playing virtually all sports, and I am a huge fan of the NY Mets, NY Jets, and NJ Devils.

Meaghan Lenahan

I am a junior at TCNJ majoring in Psychology with minors in Women's and Gender Studies and Spanish.  I am passionate about helping educate people about the issues surrounding domestic violence and sexual assault.  I one day hope to be involved in counseling individuals who have been victims of these circumstances and help make a difference in their lives.  Being a SAVE PE is one way that I feel I can make an impact.

Darryl Levy

Hey, I’m a Junior Psychology Major with a concentration in Biopsychology.  I plan to attend Medical School and ultimately will pursue a field in Neurosurgery or Neurology.  I am an active member in Jewish Life on campus (both Chabad and Hillel) and am one of the first members of Alpha Epsilon Pi.  I am a citizen of USA, Canada, and Israel. I am Hearing Impaired and I play the drums (or used to at least).

Sharanya Mohanty

Hi, my name is Sharanya Mohanty, and I am a junior at The College of New Jersey. I am a Psychology major on the pre-med track with a minor in Women and Gender Studies and Chemistry. I am the vice-president of women’s center and am also involved in the Women in Learning and Leadership program (WILL).  This is my second year as a Student Anti-Violence Educator, and I am very excited to help with the launching of the Green Dot Campaign on our campus this year. In the future, I plan to attend medical school and become a doctor.

Scott Schwartz

Hey all! I am a senior Mathematics Secondary Education major. I am so happy to have all the new SAVE PEs on board this year. Besides peer education, I am also very passionate about being a member of the Swing dance club and the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity on campus. On top of these activities, I am a third year Desk Assistant in the ABE hall dormitory. Please feel free to stop in and say hi! While I am excited to graduate, I will miss TCNJ and all the friends I have made. That is why I plan to make the most out of this year!
