Anxiety Alternatives

Thursdays 3:30 P.M. - 4:50 P.M.

(starting February 2nd)

Anxiety happens. You will learn that most people experience anxiety at various times and in various life situations, such as in class, with friends and family, in relationships, at work, or in new/unfamiliar situations. Sometimes, your anxiety grows to the point where it interferes with what you want to be doing. You do not have to cede control - or enjoyment - of your life over to anxiety and the features that cause it. This group is designed to help you accomplish this through...

  • Learning alternatives to becoming or being anxious
  • Using relaxation techniques
  • Improving self-management skills
  • Developing effective responses to social anxiety

Facilitated by: Larry Gage, PhD; Lauren Goldberg, Pre-master's intern

Hearts Apart: For Students Who Have Experienced the Death of a Parent or a Step-Parent

Wednesdays 1:30 - 3:00 P.M.

(starting February 15th)

This group is open to any TCNJ student who has experienced the death of a parent. It does not matter how recently or how long ago. It is a safe place to talk about this life changing experience. It is a place where you will be heard.

This group meets once a week for approximately 10 weeks each semester. Students have the option of remaining in the group for as many semesters as they would like. The group is closed to new members after the first two meetings of each semester.

The group can help you to:

  • Learn you are not alone
  • Learn from others who have lost a parent
  • Learn how this experience affects you academically, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and romantically.
  • Learn how to handle things such as holidays/special events, family and friends, guilt/shame/embarrassment, growing up too fast, memories, and feeling different.

Facilitated by: Carol Evangelisto, M.A., LPC; Kirsten Graham, Pre-master's intern

Healing Hearts: A Support Group for Grieving Students Who Have Experienced a Death of a Relative or Friend

(starting February 22nd)

Are you a TCNJ student who has experienced a death of a close friend or family member? Consider joining this group where you will receive support from, and give support to fellow grieving students by talking, listening and learning that your feelings matter, your reactions are normal…and that you are not alone in your grief.

Facilitated by: Carol Evangelisto, M.A., LPC

Or, it might be something that you’ve been living with for a while that you’ve now decided to “Do something” about.
