Groups for Spring Semester, 2008
(Check back frequently, times and offerings are tentative and dependent on enrollment)
Space is limited so if you’re interested in joining any of the following groups, contact the Psychological Counseling Services to set up an appointment with the group's facilitator(s) before the start date of the group.
Students Who Have Experienced the Death of a Parent
Wednesdays 1:00 - 2:15 P.M. (Starts 13 February)
This group is open to any TCNJ student who has experienced the death of a parent. It does not matter how recently or how long ago. It is a safe place to talk about this life changing experience. It is a place where you will be heard.
This group meets once a week for approximately 10 weeks each semester. Students have the option of remaining in the group for as many semesters as they would like. The group is closed to new members after the first two meetings of each semester.
The group can help you to:
- Learn you are not alone
- Learn from others who have lost a parent
- Learn how this experience affects you academically, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and romantically.
- Learn how to handle things such as holidays/special events, family and friends, guilt/shame/embarrassment, growing up too fast, memories, and feeling different.

Q - A Group for GLBT and Questioning Students
Wednesdays 5:00 - 6:30 P.M. (Starts 20 February)
This group will be a confidential forum open to any TCNJ student who is searching to understand his or her sexual identity. It will be a safe place for students who are questioning their sexual identities, as well as for those whose identity is certain, but who may have other concerns or issues that they want explore.
These can include:
- Coming Out
- Relationships
- Personal Identity
- Issues of bias/ prejudice and social acceptance
- Loneliness and Isolation
- Questions, Questions and, more Questions
This group will meet once a week for approximately 10 weeks beginning around mid-September. Meetings will take place in the conference room of the Health and Counseling Services suite, Eickhoff Hall 107. The group will be limited to 10 participants.

Students from Families with Addictions or Mental Health Issues Support Group
Thursdays 10:00 - 11:30 A.M. (Starts 21 February)
An opportunity to share with and get the support of others who have had alcoholic, addicted, or mentally ill parent or family member. Self-esteem, current relationships, self-confidence, and comfort in social settings can be negatively affected; the group offers a chance to choose a more positive approach, to others and yourself!

Food, Mood, and You Support Group
Wednesdays 2:45 - 4:15 P.M. (Starts 6 February)
A support group for women to talk about and better understand their thoughts and feelings about food, body image, and exercise. The group is a place of education, camaraderie, and support as members look at and discuss these issues and their impact on themselves and their relationships.

Bulletin: The group described above is almost completely full. We still encourage you to come in to indicate interest if you would like to become a member; with sufficient enrollment we will begin another group - time and day TBA .
Race, Culture and Identity
Mondays 4:00 - 5:20 P.M. (Starts 4 February)
The group will explore the impacts of personal, family, and cultural dynamics on members' sense of self and on their relationships.
