Office of Differing Abilities Services

The College of New Jersey is committed to insuring equal opportunity and access to all members of the campus community in accordance with Section 503/504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). The College prohibits discrimination against any employee or applicant for employment on the basis of physical/mental disability, or perceived disability. The College is committed to maintaining an environment free of discrimination. Included are job application procedures, hiring, promotion or transfer, recruitment or recruitment advertising, layoff, discipline, termination, rates of pay and other forms of compensation, selection for training programs, or any other term, condition, or privilege of employment.

The College will provide reasonable and appropriate accommodations to enable employees and students to promote their participation in the life of the campus community unless doing so imposes an undue hardship on the college's operation. Individuals with disabilities are responsible for reporting and supplying support documentation regarding their disability. Requests for accomodations must be initiated through the Office of Differing Abilities.

Responsibility for accomplishing the objectives stated in this policy, and for establishing an atmosphere that fosters mutual understanding and respect for all those who work and study at The College rests with supervisors at all levels and with every person having administrative responsibility with The College. The overall responsibility for The College's equal opportunity program has been assigned to the Director of the Office of Equity and Diversity. The ultimate responsibility for accomplishing The College's objectives depends on the understanding, acceptance, support and involvement of all members of The College of New Jersey community.
