How to Use Student Health Services During the Fall & Spring Semesters
All TCNJ students currently enrolled in classes can be seen in Student Health Services (SHS). Click HERE to view the various health care services offered. Students can usually secure a same-day appointment for sickness if they call early in the day (609-771-2483) and not wait until the late afternoon. In times of high demand (cold and flu season), priority is given to those students with the most urgent medical conditions. First aid (burns, cuts, bee stings, etc.) is available on a walk-in basis.
There is no charge for most professional services. There is a charge for laboratory tests, certain supplies (crutches, air casts, etc.), allergy shots, physicals, vaccinations, physicals, emergency contraception (Plan B) and prescription medicine. Student Health Services utilizes outside providers for laboratory (Quest Diagnostics) and prescription medicine (Quick Chek Pharmacy). The Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) helps defray these charges (see Student Health Insurance).
Notes for missed classes or assignments are NOT provided by Student Health Services. Please do not make an appointment solely for the purpose of documenting your illness. For more information, click HERE.
Student Health Services is NOT an emergency room and students should call 609-771-2345 (on-campus) or 9-1-1 to summon immediate medical attention (see Emergencies).
Allow 4 weeks for appointments for routine (no symptoms) male STI screens and physicals (for study abroad, nursing, etc.). TB tests and flu vaccination clinics are available at designated dates and times during the semester. Students can also make an appointment for a flu shot.
It is important that students provide at least 2 hours notice for cancelled appointments. With enough notice, we can give someone else your appointment time. STUDENTS WHO NO-SHOW FOR APPOINTMENTS FOR PHYSICALS AND STI SCREENING WILL BE CHARGED $10.00. A REGISTRATION HOLD WILL BE PLACED UNTIL PAYMENT IS RECEIVED IN STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES.
During the semester, Planned Parenthood operates an on-campus satellite office within the Student Health Services' suite in 107 Eickhoff Hall and provides routine and problem gynecological care including STI screening (female students only) and birth control. Call 609-771-2110 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
Male students can obtain STI screening in TCNJ Student Health Services by calling 609-771-2889 to schedule an appointment. There is a $10.00 charge if you "no show" foryour appointment.
Students who may have been a victim of sexual assault can be seen in Student Health Services. Click HERE for more information.
Emergency contraception (Plan B/Morning-After Pill) is available in Student Health Services and Planned Parenthood. Male and female students, 17 years of age or older, can purchase Plan B in Student Health Services or at any local drug store, without a prescription. Click HERE for more information.
Free HIV testing is available on select Fridays throughout the semester on a walk-in basis (Click HERE for dates and more information). Students under the age of 18 do NOT need parental consent in the State of New Jersey to obtain reproductive health care services.
