"Conquerer of the Hill" Competition

"Conqueror of the Hill" is an annual applied engineering/technology/science competition for all public and private high school students (grades 9 through 12) in New Jersey. Each year the competition focuses on designing and building a "robot" made from common household items designed to complete a specific task on the playing field of a plywood hill. This is a head-to-head competition where two teams at a time compete against one another on the same hill, incorporating both offensive and defensive strategies in the design of their robot.

The COH committee consists of Ted Latham, Chairman (tedlath@netscape.net), Craig Polk of Alcatel-Lucent Foundation, and Dr. Nathan Magee of TCNJ Physics Department.  This year's event takes place March 21 at 8am in rooms P101 and P117 in the Science Complex.

This year’s robots will attack a 4" diameter plastic toilet ball float suspended as a modified pendulum from the top center of the flat iron bridge used in last year's competition. The winning robot will successfully over power the opponent robot by "moving" the toilet bowl float past the center of the top of the hill and in the direction of the opponents starting zone.  Judging will be done by a contingent of physics and engineering majors and faculty.  Although a large number of competitors and parents are expected, everyone interested in watching this exciting event is invited.  For more information go to http://conquerorofthehill.com.
