MUSE Gets Underway
The College of New Jersey's Mentored Undergraduate Summer Experience (MUSE) is underway with 65 students and 41 faculty from six TCNJ Schools and 22 Departments/Programs taking part in collaborative research and creative activities. The students are working with their faculty mentors in full-time scholarly activity for eight weeks and are supported with stipends and on-campus housing. Funds have been provided by the College and external sources, including the National Science Foundation, American Association for the Advancement of Science/Merck Corporation, National Conference on Undergraduate Research/Lancy Foundation, and National Starch and Chemical.
What is a summer activity without an ice cream social? Students and mentors take some time from their work to socialize and enjoy ice cream. (Right) Dr. Janet Morrison, coordinator of MUSE, scoops ice cream, as faculty and
students wait to be served. (Below) Dr. John Allison and Dr. Lynn Bradley (standing )of the Chemistry Department relax with students. (left to right) Josette Marrero is doing research in forensic chemistry with Dr. Allison this summer. Michelle Nugent is working with Dr. Sarah Cunningham in public art. Katharine Straub and Ryan Weber are both studying global warming in the Alps with Dr. Elizabeth Mackie.
Throughout the summer students will come together to share experiences and results of their research in both formal and informal settings. Final reports will be published at the end of the summer.
