Janet Morrison Receives Biology Grant
Janet Morrison of the Biology Department was invited to participate in a federal interagency meeting of Principal Investigators on invasive species grants funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), National Science Foundation (NSF), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This was held in Washington D.C. September 17 and 18th, 2005. She was only one of two invitees who work at primarily undergraduate institutions. Her grant is funded by the Biology of Weedy and Invasive Species Program at the USDA. She presented a poster about her project entitled "Escape from disease: its role in broomsedge invasiveness and weediness." The poster will remain at USDA where it will be displayed in rotation with other posters from the meeting. The main purpose of the meeting was to help the funding agencies think about how best to promote invasive species research so that basic science, applied science, and resource management achieve greater connection.
