I think choosing a major was one of my biggest anxieties going in to college. Not knowing what I wanted to do with my career, I was lost when it came to this important decision. I had an idea that I wanted to go into the Health Care field, but I was not sure what path to choose. The Open Option Science program seemed like it was made just for me. Not having restrictions and requirements on the classes I had to take, made the process of finding a major much easier, and much more genuine. Not only did it help me choose my major, but it gave me insight into the various concentrations available to students, and this has made a direct impact on my schooling. My eventual decision was an educated one, having experienced classes in various departments in the School of Science. The Orientation to Science class, required for all Open Option students, revealed to me the various careers in the Health Care field and showed me the myriad of pathways to get there. The speakers, along with the help of the advisor, filled my mind with useful advice on what step I should take next. I can honestly say that taking this introductory class, and consistently meeting with my advisor played a huge part in shaping my education here. I am currently Biology Major with an interdisciplinary concentration in Religious Studies. I am also a TCNJ Ambassador, a big brother in Big Brothers and Sisters of America, a peer mentor for the Open Option Science program, a member of FIMRC (foundation for the international medical relief of children) and the Indian Student Association. Along with shadowing and volunteering at various medical offices, I am shadowing in a research lab of a TCNJ professor. I hope to go to Medical School after my undergraduate studies.
