
Summer Study at Casa de Brasil

Study in Madrid, one of the world's most cosmopolitan, vibrant cities. Learn about Spanish art, architecture, and culture in giuded visits around Madrid and to surrounding historic sites. Vistit some of the most historic and beautiful cities in the world, such as Segovia, Toledo, and Avila, cities designed World Heritage Sites by the UNESCO. As well, live in Casa de Brasil, an international dormitory on the Universidad Complutense de Madrid campus, where you can meet Spanish students and other international students.
Academic Offerings
In order to qualify for admission to the program, students must have a minimum grade point average of 2.5. All students in the program must register for at least one course (three credits) and may choose from the following courses:
- SPA 10201 Basic Spanish Sequence II
- SPA 10301 Basic Spanish Sequence III
- SPA 20310 Speech and Grammar
- SPA 21610 Noticias/Current Events in the Spanish Speaking World
- SPA 24110 Introduction to Spanish Literature
- SPA 30310 Culture and Society in Spain
The program includes numerous cultural events at no additional cost to participants. On Wednesdays, there will be field trips to museums and historical monuments in the city of Madrid, such as El Prado, El Palacio de Oriente, El Museo de la Reina Sofía, and Las Cortes. Weekends are free for your own travel plans. We also offer an optional study tour to Andalucia to visit the mysterious cities of Granada, Sevilla and Cordoba. In Granada you will visit the unforgettable Alhambra, one of the architectural wonders of the world and greatest treasures of the Islamic culture.

Dr. Teresa Anta San Pedro, Program Director, is a member of the Department of Modern Languages at TCNJ, and has conducted summer programs in Spain for the past ten years. Additional faculty members from TCNJ and the University of Madrid will also participate in the program.
Students live in a modern dormitory, Casa de Brasil, on the University of Madrid campus, which is located on the outskirts of the city and is convenient to metro and bus stations. Three meals per day are provided Monday through Saturday.

- Initial Desposit: $ paid by February 6, 2009
(Initial Deposit includes a $170 non-refundable administrative fee)
- Second Deposit: $ paid by March 6, 2009
- Last Depsoit: $ paid by March 31, 2009
Includes:
- Visits to museums and historic monuments in Madrid
- Field trips to El Escorial, Segovia, Toledo, and Valle de los Caídos
- Accommodations in dormitory
- Three meals per day (except Sundays)
Does NOT Include:
- $1776 -Tuition Cost (based on the number of courses a student wishes to take, and the student’s in-state or out-of-state residence status).

(Dorm cost is based on double occupancy with an additional cost of $300 for a single room. Prices are based on 20 paying participants and are subject to change.)

- An individual cancellation must be made to The Office of International and Off-Campus Programs and the Summer School (Green Hall, room 111) in writing or in person. Cancellation is made effective the date the program provider recieves the cancellation notification from the Green Hall office.
- Should a program be cancelled in writing by TCNJ after the start date, no refund amount can be guarenteed, although TCNJ will make reasonable efforts to seek refunds from third parties for costs not yet incurred.
- Completion of the Application Packet & Initial Deposit will hold your place in the program - If these items are not submitted on time there is no guarantee there will be a spot for you. All Summer Faculty-Led Programs run on a first come, first serve basis and there are a limited number of students per course. However, there is a waiting list available for most trips.
- All money deposits must be submitted to either Scott Sferra or Katie Caperna. All student Application paperwork must be submitted to Rose Raimundo or Mark Weber.

- The office of International and Off-Campus Programs and the Summer School WILL NOT ACCEPT an incomplete packet . The Medical Exam Report is the only form that can be brought in separately.
