Driver's License Verification
As part of The College's Risk Management program, those employees who utilize state vehicles for business related travel or are required to drive them as part of their job function must have their driver's license verified on an annual basis. The continuation of this program is both a safety measure and a means for minimizing College liability for the unlawful operation of its vehicles. Only employees of The College of New Jersey are authorized to operate College vehicles, as only they are afforded protection under the New Jersey Tort Claims Act. Any individual who is on The College of New Jersey payroll is considered an employee, including student workers.
Please note for any student worker, the responsibility of driving of a state vehicle must be listed as one of their job responsibilities. For liability reasons, individuals, including students, who are not employees of The College of New Jersey, are prohibited from using College vehicles under any circumstances.
Please note that no employee shall operate a state vehicle without having a driver's license verification check. An employee's use of a College fleet vehicle must be within the scope of his/her employment and must be for official College use only. Personal use is not permitted.
An employee required to operate a state vehicle, but not in possession of a valid driver's license will immediately be referred to the Office of Human Resources for action up to, and possibly including, termination of employment.
If you have any questions regarding this process, please contact the Office of Risk Management Services at extension 2881.
