MINUTES -- UPE Thursday, Jan. 23 WELCOME BACK This week's meeting marked the beginning of the new semester and the start of a new set of UPE members. Our new inductees joined our meeting and the semester was underway with cookies and a new-and-improved agenda. Yeah!!! ELECTIONS Because of previous engagements, Mike Krantz has resigned as our treasurer for this semester. As a result, we elected a new treasurer. Congrats to new member Jim Richvalsky for his new position! Good luck! COMMITTEES We will be forming two major committees this semester, one for pretzel sales and one for inductions. As far as the pretzels are concerned, the executive board will double as the committee and we will target in on Thursdays as a day to sell. We will be getting all of the necessary condiments, etc. together, so we will just need your help in selling and promoting our wonderful pretzels! We'll keep you up to date... As far as the induction committee is concerned, Brad Coburn volunteered to help LJ to develop a database for Beverly, the CS secretary, to calculate in-major GPAs. We will use this information to determine a list of new inductees for next year, which we hope to get together soon in order to be able to hold the ceremony in late March. ALUMNI AFFAIRS The draft letter is done and it looks great! Thanks to LJ and Dr. Knox for putting it together at the end of last year. Anyway, it will be sent out to all CS alumni by the end of the week. We are hoping for a large contribution from everyone to start up our Award Fund with a bang! We will be following up the letter with a CS Phone-A-Thon which will take place the first week of March from Monday to Thursday from 6-9p.m. We will need all of the help we can get at that time, and we'll figure it out when the time comes. MEMBERSHIP FEES New inductees are asked to pay their membership fee of $25 in the form of a check payable to Deborah Knox. Please drop off your check with Dr. Knox personally - do not drop it off in her mailbox - and get it in as soon as possible so we can send in your money and get your certificates! ANNOUNCEMENTS LJ was nice enough to type out a nice agenda for our meeting, and the second page contained important announcements that everyone should be aware of.
