MINUTES - January 27th, 1998 - Programming Contest We are still planning on hosting the Programming Contest this semester. Hopefully more details soon. - Alumni Event We will be sending a letter to the Alumni about the Alumni Event soon. Dave and Jim volunteered to write the letter. We also plan on calling the Alumni after the letter has gone out (February/March) to invite them via phone as well. - Career Services - on campus recruitment Career services is concerned with the minimal activity among CS majors with their on campus recruitment program. They plan on having a sort of question/answer session on Feb 18th at the Career Services building. More details (including the exact time it will take place) shortly. - Fundraising We plan on sponsoring a Practice GRE again this semester since it has been a successful fundraiser in the past. Jim, Clay, and Brad agreed to chair it. We also are hoping to come up with new ideas for fund-raising. Victoria suggested someone designing a t-shirt that we could sell for profit. Any other ideas people have we please ask you to notify Dave Watkins about them. The more money we have, the more fun things we can do! - Treasury Report Treasurer Jim reports that we have aobut $360 in our budget. We will most likely use this to fund the Alumni event and maybe an end of year picnic. SFB grants us: $200 for to speakers (probably at the Alumni Event), $10 for office supplies, and $50 for scholarships. - Open floor Dr. Knox recommends that UPE should do something fun, rather than just having meetings/fundraisers all the time. Any suggestions? Dr. Knox reminded us that we should be thinking about any students who are now eligible to join UPE. Usually the CS secretary Beverly Dash computes the GPAs for us. Also, Dr. Knox said we should send thank you notes (or reminder notes) to those alumni who have sent in the money they pledged at the phone-a-thon or have yet to do so. - Announcements The next meeting will be held in Holman Hall 253 at 8:00pm on Tuesday, February 10th, unless otherwise notified through e-mail. Phi Kappa Phi Fellowships - see Dave for more info Software Order - for those of you were ordered and paid for the CD, Dave has them. Write an article for Crossroads (the ACM Student Magazine) - see Dave for more info.
