4/21/03: We held elections at the meeting yesterday, and I am proud to announce next year's officers: Chris Cirone, President Mark Strohmaier, VP Activities Mike Massimi, VP Publicity Mark Dane, Secretary Dan Ricart, Treasurer The vice presidential duties will be mostly shared between the two VP's: Social events, refreshments, and publicity We also discussed the picnic, which will be held tomorrow (rain or shine) from 12-5pm. UPE members that don't have class, please come at 12pm t help set up, most people won't be arriving until 12.30. Also, don't forget we have our last installment of FACTS this Friday at 3.30pm! Mike Montalto-Rook will be presenting a tutorial on Adobe Photoshop. We also have a tentative dinner scheduled at Dr. Knox's house on Wed. May 7th (reading day of exam week). It will be awesome food and we'll have some surprise entertainment! We may or may not be having a final meeting next Monday (4/28), details soon to come from our new prez, Chris Cirone! Information for next year's members: The new exec board and I stayed after the meeting yesterday to discuss upcoming plans for next year. We had a very eventful discussion (pun intended ;): - FACTS will continue and may be expanded to include more in depth tutorials, for example, in September we may have someone lead a three part Perl or PHP tutorial, etc. We would like to hold a special info session for the multimedia major as well as have faculty-student teams come back again to talk about research in the dept. For larger tutorials we would like to try and get a lab and even ask people to sign up for guaranteed spots with a computer. We also thought to approach IMS prof Dr. Letcher to lead a FACTS on ORACLE, his specialty (he has attended one or two FACTs programs himself). - Grad/Industry Panel in the fall. Letter of invitation already drafted, over summer find e-mail addresses on the web for names already collected and e-mail invitations. Try to schedule Oct-Nov - Grad Speakers can not only talk about classes but their research as well. Informal sessions like dinners are usually better for general grad school questions. Dinner with an alum like Lori Caruso is also a really great opportunity - CS Dept dinner at Chevy's, invite alums or faculty, students all chip in to pay for faculty and it makes a fundraiser if you do it at Chevy's. Mike M has Chevy's Info - UPE sponsored or organized trips to conferences. For example, PHPCon is in NYC this year. Also organize to Princeton IEEE meetings - Girl's & Arch HS Outreach Programs will continue in the spring - TCNJ CS Student Programming Contest (not HS) Early spring, need some kind of prize - Game/Movie nights - Welcome back CS Dept 1st two weeks of fall - Resume Review/ Interview prep again, perhaps Janssen will come back? Open up to other majors, hold earlier in spring - Dave Watkins speaker in spring - CS Jeopardy, with professor host (possibly Sampath) need prizes, fall. Items that should be started THIS spring: - Chris will be picking a meeting time and reserving the room by the end of the semester through aux. services. All other room reservations (FACTS, etc.) can be made through Melissa Vas. (vas@tcnj.edu) - Mark D. will be updating the active and alumni member lists on the web site by using the induction book - Finalizing the newsletter with updated articles for our activities this year. We will need: Both HS Outreach Programs (with reference to newspaper articles), Janssen, and Dave Watkins. I have pictures.
