MINUTES -- UPE
                            Tuesday, Sept. 9, 1997

- Committees

Kevin volunteered to keep the UPE web page up to date with members and
importants meetings dates etc.. (how generous of him).

Brad and Joe volunteered to work on the invitations that will be sent out
to those CS Majors eligible to join UPE this year.  We should have a list
of eligible students by the end of the week.  

- Practice GRE

We will be sponsoring the practice GRE again this year.  The date of the
practice test will be Saturday, September 20th at 10:00am in Forcina Hall
130.  We will be collecting $3 at the door and all of that money will go
to us.. woohoo!

The information and sign-up table for the practice GRE will be in the
student center from 9am-5pm on Thursday, September 11.  Jen Wood from the
Princeton Review will be there as well as one UPE member to do sign-ups
and give information.  We will also be receiving many fliers from Jen to
post on campus to advertise the event.  Brad is also working on a mass
e-mail to notify students about the test.

- Pretzel Sale

We plan on having a pretzel sale on a Tuesday sometime in October.  We
need several people to volunteer for this pretzel sale to be a success.
We will assign jobs at the next meeting, make sure you sign up for a job
so we can make lots of money!

- Phone-A-Thon

The phone-a-thon was such a success last year that will be doing it again
this year.  We plan on having it in November, we will know next meeting.
Dr. Knox will contact Alumni Affairs.

- Activities

- We're thinking of having some Grad school representatives come to speak.
Anyone with interest in a particular school should contact our president,
Dave.  He has a list of numbers to call.

- We're thinking of possibly having an Alumni Event.  So far the only
ideas we have is to have some kind of food event.  

- Part of our budget is set aside is for speakers.  We still need ideas on
what areas of the field we want to hear speakers talk about and when we
should have them, etc.  Let us know if you have any ideas.

- We plan on having an End of the Year picnic again this year.

- It'd be nice to have a trip (Carnegie Mellon??) for CS students to go on
this year.  

- Brad expresses interest in having the HS programming contest this year.

- Treasurer's Report

Jim informs us that we were given $260 this year from the Student Finance
Board.  $200 is for speakers, $50 for publicity, and $10 for office
supplies.  We also have roughly $70 leftover from last year's fundraisers.
Let's hope our fundraisers for this year are a huge success!

- Announcements

Brad informs us there are employment opportunites.  The college is looking
for someone to fill a position in Administrative Systems as well as a
Resnet Coordinator for the new housing the college purchasing off campus.

the NEXT UPE MEETING will be held Tuesday September 23rd at 8:00PM in
