Below is a transcript of what was discussed at the 9/17/98 Upsilon Pi Epsilon meeting: - Call to order and welcome to all prospective new members. Please remember that your $25.00 check is due to Dr. Knox at the next meeting. - The Phone-a-Thon was discussed, as were potential times to hold the event. The second & third weeks of November are when we're shooting for right now. Dave will report back to us next meeting after he speaks to our contact in Alumni & Development. - A potential Y2K Lecture, given by Dr. Kubulis, was discussed. Tim Ferguson was nominated to take care of publicity for the event. - Dow Jones expressed interest in donating equipment to UPE and the Computer Science Club. Tim Ferguson and Pat Belardo are currently working on the committee with Dow Jones to discuss exactly what equipment we could use. Some ideas discussed were: - stand alone network - linux box - "true" multimedia machine - various other pieces of campus-unsupported hardware Please e-mail UPE with any suggestions you might have to add to this list. - The Practice GRE was discussed. This is one of our major fundraisers for the year. As of right now, no one has volunteered for this project. - Continuing in the tradition of having guest speakers address the group and CS Alumni, we are planning another guest speaker for this year. Christian Boehnke and Dave Nardone have volunteered to go to the ACM website and find some potential speakers. - The treasury report was delayed since there were nothing to report, as SFB has not contacted us with our current budget. Brice Behringer is working on rectifying this situation. - Ken Kolano volunteered to be the UPE webmaster. - Erik Gorka and Craig Kapp are working on getting the faculty T-Shirts produced. Erik has done a great job so far in making sketches of the faculty, but he still needs some quotes from each professor. As of last year, the volunteered quotes for each professor were: Dr. Knox: "Don't worry about your grades" Dr. Lee: "Hello, are you there?" Dr. Neff: "Thanks for coming!" Dr. Goldberg: None Dr. Wolz: None Dr. Anderson: None Please e-mail Erik (gorka@tcnj.edu) with any additional quotes you may have. Also, Dr. Knox, Erik still needs a picture of you. - George Drayer and Greg Bronevetsky have volunteered to be our "fun" committee. Ideas such as "laser" bowling, regular bowling, and laser tag were all discussed. - Tim Ferguson volunteered to get more information on hosting a programming contest for high school seniors. He will be in contact with Brad Coburn, who worked on the project last year. - If you have done any CS research, and would like to apply for the UPE scholarship contest, please contact Dave Nardone or Dr. Knox for more information. - There will be a programming contest at Marist College sometime later this semester. If we decide to go, UPE will cover the entry fee. If you are interested, please contact Greg Bronevetsky (bronevet@tcnj.edu). Permitted Languages are C, Pascal, and Java.
