UPE minutes 9/27/99

Old/New Business-
Basketball Web Page:
	UPE has been contacted by the Men's Basketball Coach to create a TCNJ 
Basketball web page. If you are interested in lending a hand please contact 
Brian Wendrzycki at wendrzy2@tcnj.edu  

Fundraising:
	Tee-shirt Sale: Craig was supposed to stop by and let us know the 
final status from last year's tee-shirt sale. Unfortunately he wasn't in 
attendance, so we'll have to wait on that. On a side note it was discussed 
that we do a simpler, catchier shirt this year and that we make sure to more 
widely advertise it.
	Phone-a-thon: At our next meeting Marla Fisher from Alumni Services 
will be visiting us to discuss this years Phone-a-thon. It appears that we 
will be holding Phone-a-thon on November 10th, and 11th. We will be doing 
signups for this years Phone-a-thon at next weeks meeting as well.

	Other Events: UPE could sponsor a DJ or other event at the Rat. 
Assuming we could nab a good night we could easily net a good profit and also 
have a good time.

UPE Who's That?:
It was brought up that UPE is a very low profile organization on this campus. 
We would like to change this, if you have any ideas on how to get our name out 
let someone know and lets get on it. One idea brought up at the meeting would 
be a short Tech/Internet article in the Signal.

UPE Career Day:
	Would you like to talk to some people from the real world, before you 
have to make the choice to join them? I know I would. We are going to try to 
set up some events with Alumni to speak about their experiences in that big 
scary place outside our campus.

ACM SIGGRAPH-Princeton Chapter:
	The Princeton Chapter of the ACM will be having its first meeting 
Thursday, Oct. 28 at 8pm at the Sarnoff Research Center on Route 1. Look at 
http://pascal.waco.org/~princetonacm/mtg9910.html for more details. This 
should be an exciting event for any computer person, and it's free.  Plans 
will be made for car-pooling, etc. at our next meeting.

Campus Speakers:
	Dr. Know was able to get in contact with a Dr. Edward Fenton from 
Princeton University. He is a key witness in the Microsoft Trial and an expert 
in Internet Security Issues. Additionally he has told us that he is willing to 
give a talk for the campus free of charge. TCNJ's Phil Sanders also is being 
contacted about giving a speech, on Multimedia and Computer Animation.  In any 
case our speaker event needs to be fleshed out so more details shall follow.

Membership:
	We will be giving CS students who are newly eligible to UPE invites to 
next weeks meeting. This means two things-1. It's party time, we will be 
having Soda, Chips, and other goodies for next weeks meeting so come and get 
it.  2. Everyone should do his or her best to make it to the next meeting so 
UPE looks like something these possible inductees actually want to join.

Web Page:
	Last year I was in charge of the UPE web page. But do to time concerns 
its kind of gone to pasture. If anyone is interested in being Web master for 
the UPE page let us know.

Treasury:
	Brice or Treasurer is no longer able to hold the position. Anyone who 
would like to volunteer for the highly esteemed position of Treasurer let us 
know.
