UPE Minutes : 10/25/99 1) Introductions: Everyone introduced themselves and stated their least favorite class (any class with Shoulson, Discrete, and Linear Algrebra). 2) SIGGRAPH: The local ACM chapter is having a showing of Computer Graphics items shown at SIGGRAPH this year in LA. It's this Thursday, October 28, 1999, 8 PM @ the Sarnoff Research Center on Rt 1. If anyone needs a ride or can drive, email UPE. 3) T-Shirt Sale: This has been put on hold. Currently in process of refunding money from last year. 4) Phone-a-thon: Marla Fisher from Alumni affairs gave a talk about the Phone-A-Thon. The Phone-A-Thon essentially involves calling Comp. Sci. alumni and asking for donations and if they would like to come to the college and give talks. Marla mentioned that it is a good networking opportunity (for possible internships). Part of the money made (25%) at the Phone-a-Thon will go directly to the Computer Science department for scholarships and awards. The Phone-A-Thon is on Tuesday Nov 9th and Wednesday Nov 10th from 6-9:30. A session on calling stategies will be held on Monday Nov 8th before the regular UPE meeting Volunteer for however many hours you can. Come early and have pizza, soda and snacks. 5) The Computer Science Department webpage needs updating, they have asked us to volenteer some time to redesign it. The page should be lynx readable. The department is looking for candidates to fill positions in the department and a well-organized page would be helpful. It would only require a couple hours of work over the period of a month. If interested contact Dr. Knox. 6) Dr. Wolz contacted UPE about anyone interested in helping out a Trenton area tutoring program. They have Macs/PCs and need software installed, and machines fixed. Also they are looking for anyone interested in tutoring Trenton area kids. Contact sweyer@bellatlantic.net if interested. 7) We are still looking for possible speakers to give a talk this year. 8) The Political Science Club is organizing tables to give freshman advice about classes and professors. If interested email UPE. 9) New members need pay the $25 fee ASAP. Checks can be made out to Deborah Knox. Her office is 239 Holman, office hours are Tues 12:30-3PM. 10) If anyone is interesting in the ACM programming contest, contact UPE. Teams have been made but there is still a need for one more team member. 11) The UPE webpage needs a webmaster. All it requires is a few updates every couple weeks, but someone willing to to a total overhaul would be apriciated. 12) We finally found our Treasury statment.
