Minutes October 30, 2002 1. Dues were collected. If you have not handed your dues in yet, get them to myself or Karl by Monday. Thanks! 2. FACTS last week was very successful -- 21 students and 4 faculty members came! Don't forget our second FACST session is today at 3.30 in HH 126. Thank you Jessie and Aaron for volunteering to help me get snacks for FACTS this week. Next semester I will have a class during the FACTS time slot, so I am looking for people to volunteer and "mc" the different FACTS meetings. Basically people would just be ensuring that the room is ready and introduce the speakers. Ideas for FACTS next semester include: Topics Class discussions, programming languages, and field buzz word discussions. 3. Grad/Industry Panel is slated for next semester. THIS semester however we are hoping to have some grad students from the University of Delaware (Mike Bloodgood and Keith Trnka) come and talk to us about UD's program. Tentative date is 12/4. 4. HS Outreach Programs (architecture, women in computing, programming contest) will happen next semester. We discussed further ideas for the architecture outreach program. Steve suggested instead of (or in addition to) putting together a computer from components or installing different components, we could show the students hardware trouble shooting tips. For example, what beeps indicate if you hear one, two, or three, etc. 5. Movie night next week (11/6)! We will be watching Office Space, refreshments will be served. Chris volunteered to bring the VHS for back up. Jessie volunteered her laptop so we could watch the DVD. 6. Game night 11/20. Chris will be providing refreshments. We need to make sure that either Knox is available or someone can make sure that the room is open. Travis offered to bring a number of games, I will be bringing Pictionary. 7. Fundraising! We will be doing a phone-a-thon in the spring. Bryan mentioned that Dr. Knox needs to contact Diana Luggas to set it up. THere are two options with pros/cons: we can call the alumns using the new computer system that would require training to use, or the regular people call the alumns and we just give them a list of names. Thanks for coming guys, see you for the movie night next week! Emily
