UPE Minutes - November 8th 1999 Attendance: Ken Kolano Chris Moyer Bill Henderson Karl K. Christian B. Avani P. Brian R. Brian W. 1) Marla from Alumni Affairs had a practice session for the Phone-A-Thon. Phone-a-thon will be on Nov 9th and 10th from 6-9 in Green Hall 214. There will be prizes (including 4 books of the winners choices) and food. 2) ACM SIGGRAPH Trip - Those who attended last week trip to the ACM presentation on SIGGRAPH said it was a good event. We will be looking out for more ACM events. 4) T-Shirt Sale - Money is still being returned from last year when possible. We have not yet tracked down where last years artwork is, but are in the process of finding it. 5) Treasurer - Brian Robinson is our new Treasurer. Concradulations! We are still working on unfreezing our account. 6) UPE Webpage Webmaster - Bill Henderson is our new UPE Webmaster. 7) Dow Jones equipment room use - CSClub will be installing Linux on the smaller machine this week. If you have any objections or suggestions for the Dow Jones computer use please email Christian boehnke2@tcnj.edu. Information on what is currently avalible on these machines and tentative policy for their use can be found at http://www.tcnj.edu/~upe/DJEquipmentTerms.htm. We also are in the process of finding out how many keys are avalible to access the room these machines are kept in. 8) Yearbook Photos - Yearbook photos are on Nov 17th at 4:20 in the Student Center. If you are busy on that day or time please email UPE ASAP. 9) Campus Speakers - We are formally inviting Edward Fenton from Princetonton speak at the campus. He will be talking on either Internet Security Issues or the Microsoft Antitrust case. We will be contacting him to find out what kind of facilities he needs and what timeframe he would like for his talk. 10) Career Night - We are planning a career night where alumni come back and talk to CS students about their work. Jared Klett expressed an interest in coming back to do this. We will also be soliciting interested parties for this through phone-a-thon. 11) CS Awards Guidelines - Every year the department gives out awards to students, but there are no guidelines as to whom can recieve these awards. If you are interested in being on the Awards Guideline Committee email UPE. The committee currently consists of Ken and Avani. 12) Social Events - To get to know other CS majors, we would like to plan some social events. Karl Kliokis is our Social Director, email him at kliokis@tcnj.edu with any suggestions. 13) Phi Kappa Phi is awarding money to anyone doing research during the Spring Semester. If you are doing a CMSC497 next semester this is a great opportunity. The deadline is Nov. 15th. Email Ken at kolano2@tcnj.edu if interested.
