The College of New Jersey has two observatories. Situated on top of the physics side of the science complex, the dome is currently open for use by all astronomy classes as well at the general student population. Visitors are welcome at anytime during our regular hours of 8-10pm Monday-Thursday. The second dome over the chemisty building is currently being used to research purposes and is not avalible for public use.
First time here? Please check the FAQ link.
The observatory is a big metal dome which we open up to the night sky. It is not heated, and as such it is just as cold if not colder than the air outside. Please dress or plan accordingly!
Call x3007 if you are unsure about our hours. Make sure to try it twice in case we can't get to it in time.
PLEASE NOTE: The website is not updated until late!! This is to make sure that we correct for the weather of the day, as the weather forcast is often wrong. The website will be updated by 7PM at the latest if it is opening. If it still says "UNDECIDED" at 7PM, without any notes or changes, assume it is closed.
