Black Women:

In Their Hair Today

RELAXED

Taken from the Pantene® Relaxed & Natural Presents the 13th Annual Golden Scissors Awards Competition in Washington, D.C., these styles display the great confidence of black women despite the many demeaning stereotypes about their naturally curly, "nappy" hair.  There no longer exists the need of marginalizing the black woman's hair as not "good hair" because they have access to them the many avenues to achieve whatever style of hair they choose and color, defying the marginalizations of this world truly through a rarely pursued medium- their hair.  Hairstyle is truly a form of art and expression.

Look at the great volume of these many hairstyles.  They jump out at you and grab your attention, expressing the "bigger than life" personalities and attitudes of black women throughout the African Diaspora.  It is as if the strength of a column holding a building up and steady that black women throughout the diaspora have been able to express themselves through their hair and style.

NATURAL

Natural hairstyles such as the ones above show the embracing of women of African descent of their rich "roots" and heritage".  Today, modern black women are not afraid to wear their hair in its natural form- with voluptuous curl.
