LIT 370 - Studies: Women's Autobiographies
This course will explore women's voices through time and across many different cultures, including medieval women mystics' private meditations; 17th-century Puritan women's commonplace books; spiritual autobiographies of traveling Quaker ministers; Indian captivity narratives in early America; 18th-century British "scandalous memoirs;" American slave narratives; southern white women's antebellum diaries; 19th-century cross-dressed women's war narratives; Victorian maidservants' journals; women's pioneer diaries of westward migration and expansion; and finally, some 20th-century women's "fictional autobiographies."
