Women's and Gender Studies

Dr. Ellen G. Friedman

Professor Ellen G. Friedman received her Ph.D. from New York University with Distinction. Her dissertation was published as a book: Joyce Carol Oates. Since then she has published numerous articles in such journals as PMLA, The European Journal of Women’s Studies, Modern Fiction Studies, and The Novel. She has appeared on National Public Radio both in the U.S. and Australia and lectured internationally, including St. Petersburg, Russia, Wales, and Germany. Among her other books are Morality USA (with Corinne Squire) and Breaking the Sequence: Women’s Experimental Fiction (with Miriam Fuchs).

She teaches graduate courses on literary theory, women’s literature, and American literature. Her undergraduate courses include Gender and Democracy, Representations of the Holocaust, Feminist Theories, and women’s and American literature courses.

She likes to run, read, go to jazz clubs, and play with her grandchildren.
