2/2/07 - First Meeting of Spring 2007

  • Middle School Outreach Program:
  • To show what computer scientists do
  • Will consist of two events:
    • Wed, March 28: For kids interested in computer science
    • Wed, April 18: Women in computer science (this is the one we'd focus on)
  • About 20 middle school age participants would be invited to each event
  • We want to make the programs interactive and fun, not just lectures. Some ideas:
    • Alice: creativing Java programs through a GUI
    • Website creation
    • Various stations going on at once
    • We'd like the particpants to have something to take home with them (certificate, website URL, etc.)
  • Planning sessions will be held; the times will be announced shortly
  • Meeting time is set to 11:30-12:30 on Fridays.
  • Nadine Stern will hopefully be attending one of these meetings, most likely in March
  • Jaclyn is also working on getting someone from Lockheed Martin to speak
  • The drop in tutoring schedule has been revised for the new semester
  • We would like to have another social, most likely during the middle of the semester
  • In order to be an official organization, at least two members must attend a meeting about running an effective club. More information will follow.
