Minutes for 3/22/07

• Nadine Stern is coming to speak next Friday, March 30 from 11:30 to 12:30 in room 253. We want to advertise this with flyers and table tents.
• We discussed the Middle School Outreach Program:
• There will be an important meeting next week to plan the Middle School Outreach Program. Dr. Pulimood will send an email regarding potential meeting times.
• The program will take place Wednesday, April 18 in the afternoon and will be approx 2 hours.
• It is no longer specific to only females in computer science
• We need ideas for things to do with and show to the students:
• preferably things that show interesting applications of computer science which most people don't think of, as opposed to straight programming.
• Jaclyn mentioned showing some of the work she is doing with Dr. Salgian about face recognition.
• We reconsidered the idea of having participants create their own websites; perhaps we would show them some neat things that can be done with scripting/web programming, and even allow them to make small modifications to scripts.
• Other colleges and universities have had programs similar to this, such as Ohio State. Check their websites for information on activities they have done to get ideas.
• Please email any ideas you have to Dr. Pulimood by Monday.
