World Federation of United Nations Associations Liaison Office at The U.N. Headquarters in New York
Who We Are?
We are a peoples' movement in support of the United Nations. Inspired by the opening words of the United Nations Charter "We the Peoples", the World Federation was created in 1946 - one year after the establishment of the UN.
Today, we have become a global network of hundreds of thousands of people linked together through United Nations Associations in over 100 member states of the UN. Our networks enable people to connect with each other on critical global issues affecting us all, from peace and human rights to the spread of democracy, equitable development, and international justice.
WFUNA is an independent, non-governmental organization with Category One Consultative Status at the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and consultative or liaison links with many other UN organizations and agencies.

Intern Information:
Specific internship positions are advertised based on our need for a focus on certain projects or issue areas (see bottom of page for current vacancies). In general, the work of interns is an integral part of ongoing WFUNA activities, such as:
- Communicating with United Nations Associations (of which there are over 100 all around the world)
- Developing and implementing projects on specific issue areas (i.e. climate change. human rights, development, peace and security...etc.)
- Liaising with diplomats, NGOs and UN Secretariat staff
- Event management ( WFUNA holds meetings throughout the year)
- Website maintenance
- Preparation of project proposals
- Working on the monthly newsletter – UN Connections
- Administrative activities
As well, interns may develop their own projects in close consultation with the WFUNA staff, for example Interns have:
- Participated in UN Preparatory Committees for major conferences, produced position papers and represented WFUNA at the conference
- Designed, organized and conducted a session of the WFUNA Academy for A Better UN for UNA participants, in the context of major UN conferences
- Conducted research and produced papers on aspects of international law that are now on the WFUNA website - under the WFUNA Academy for a Better UN
- Produced strategy papers for UNAs to participate in the Global Compact – published on the WFUNA website
- Created new online networks, particularly relating to youth and Model UN
What are the conditions?
WFUNA is not in a position to provide a stipend to interns. Many interns have raised funds from their local community to subsidize their travel and living expenses. WFUNA may, on request, provide a confirmation letter of acceptance.
