Save the Internet at TCNJ!

Facts you need to know:

  • This ain't the Internet that Mom & Dad get at home.
  • There are over 6,000 students here all vying for as much Internet as they can get.
  • There's only so much to go around. Try plugging in 6,000 computers at your place and see what happens.
  • TCNJ has to buy commercial Internet access which is different and more expensive than what you get at home.

So what are we going to do?

Don't be wasteful!   This is a scarce resource whose first mission is to support academic needs of the College community.

Think twice before you download or stream.   Try to get stuff from TCNJ servers or other TCNJ resources first before going to the Internet.

Conserve!  Did you know that 5 Google searches use as much energy that your body burns in about a minute and emits about 1 gram of CO2?  And Google has the world's most efficient data centers. Other Internet sites are far worse!

Don't stay connected when you're not actively using your computer.  If you must, do it after 2am or before 8pm.  You'll find pretty good throughput up through ~11am every day.

Use it wisely! There are no download caps here.  Let's keep it that way!

Your Internet usage affects everybody else here.
